Health and Safety

The only way to keep our schools and children safe depends how well we come together as a community. Here is how we can all do our part:

• APS Layered Mitigation Strategies: https://www.apsva.us/school- year-2021-22/health-safety-information/ Make sure to follow the same precautions at home, at after-school activities and on the weekend.

• Reinforce the Importance of Consistent Mask Use and Hand Washing with your student

• Keep Kids Home if They are Sick: Complete the Qualtrics symptom screener from APS as a daily reminder of the importance of checking your student’s health and keeping students who are ill at home. APS has updated the guidance for staff and families on our website to help better explain COVID response protocols. Please take a moment to view the Parent Quick Guide as well as newly revised health and safety procedures.

• Get Everyone in your Household Vaccinated: Vaccines have been approved for children 5-11 years old! The best way to protect our children under 5 is to surround them with vaccinated people. Get every eligible member of your household vaccinated. You can schedule an appointment online or if you require assistance scheduling your appointment with Arlington County Public Health, call 703-228-7999. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

You may also find a Vaccine for You and your Child:

• Vaccines.gov

• Your child’s pediatrician may also offer the vaccine.

• Text your ZIP code to 438829 (GETVAX) or to 822862 (VACUNA) to find nearby vaccine locations.

You can find FREE COVID vaccines from Arlington County locations here: https://www.arlingtonva.us/covid-19/vaccines/registration/

• Opt in for APS Weekly COVID Testing: In order to help curb the spread of COVID in our schools, APS has partnered with ResourcePath to launch a weekly surveillance testing at Claremont. Surveillance testing is a good way to assess the prevalence of infection in the community. This voluntary COVID monitoring program will take place at each school in the county. ResourcePath will be providing free rapid antigen testing opportunities at Claremont every Tuesday between 1:00PM and 3:30PM at a designated outdoor area. Parents can sign their students up for free weekly testing. To do so, parents need to fill out the Consent and Intake Form once for each child. Find the form and more details on the program at: https://www.apsva.us/school-year-2021-22/health-safety-information/covid-19-testing/
